Idah Phiri represented us well at the just Ended 7th WE CAN Breast and Cervical Cancer Advocacy that was held in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The summit brought together breast and cervical cancer survivors and patient advocates from East and Southern Africa, as well as cancer clinicians and policy makers.
WE CAN works to ensure progress toward reducing disparities in breast and cervical cancer outcomes by equipping cancer survivors and patient advocates with evidence-based information about cancer, linking them with other advocates and offering ongoing advocacy training and mentoring to enable the success of their efforts.
Idah’s presentation was on the role of social media in reducing cervical and breast cancer stigma and increasing screening with the focus on the Duku Challenge. A social campaign pioneered by the Zambian Cancer Society to raise awareness on breast cancer through wearing of Dukus (headwraps) as seen in the pictures below.
